Pong Dam Lake (also known as Maharana Pratap Sagar) is a manmade reservoir formed due to the
construction of Pong Dam on Beas River in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
Pong Dam Lake was designated a Ramsar Wetland in 2002. This is the first wetland in Himachal
Pradesh to have gained the status of a wetland of international importance. Mo

species belonging to 56 families have been recorded in the lake.
The Pong Dam Lake looks like sea splendid with the Dhauladhar range on its north providing beautiful snow-covered mountain range as a backdrop.
Pong wetland harbours more than 420 species of the birds, 27 species of Fish, 24 Species of Mammals and more than 25 Species of Amphibians & Reptiles.
Bathu temples, known locally as Bathu ki ladi, is a cluster of temples dedicated to goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva and lies within Pong dam lake WLS. These temples were submerged within the Maharana Pratap Sagar once the impoundment of Pong reservoir was complete in the early 1970s.
